How Wyoming Officially Defines Assisted Living:

“The definition of Assisted Living Facility is a dwelling operated by any person, firm, or corporation engaged in providing limited nursing care; personal care; and boarding home care, but not habilitative care, for persons not related to the owner of the facility. This definition may include facilities with secured units and facilities dedicated to the special care and services for people with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementia conditions. A valid state license is required prior to providing care to any client/patient/resident. Following are the requirements and procedures through which your agency may be approved to be licensed as a provider of Assisted Living Facility services.”

This quoted directly from the Licensure section on the State’s Department of Health site.

How to get a Complete PDF or Excel List of Assisted Living Facilities & Senior Care Communities in Wyoming:

This is so easy, and it will save you a LOT of time surfing and sorting through sites that may or may not be trustworthy or accurate.  Remember, these lists are PROVIDED BY the State of Wyoming.  There is no commercial interest or backing behind them.

To get a list of Facilities simply visit the Wyoming Department of Health’s Aging Division, and their Healthcare Licensing & Surveys section here.   You’ll see a page that looks like this:

Wyoming Facilities

You’ll notice that there are two obvious links that will immediately take you to an Excel or PDF output of all Healthcare Facilities in the State.

The PDF version will look something like this (snapshot):

PDF Facilities in Wyoming

The Excel version will look something like this (snapshot):

Excel Facilities Snapshot

They both look similar, however, the great thing about the Excel version is that you can make notes, sort columns, or delete irrelevant entries and more.    This is a great tool to have as you research and tour potential facilities.    Taking a laptop along with you on these tours is a great idea, so you can access your .PDF or .Excel List in real time.

Wyoming Database for Assisted Living & Senior Care Facilities Including Inspections Reports

A second method for researching State-Supplied data on Senior Living facilities throughout Wyoming is by using their Healthcare Facility Inspections Reports database.    This database is a little clunky to use (they would benefit by updating the design a bit to something a little more current and mobile-friendly).

The database main page looks like this:

Facility Database Wyoming

You have several fields to fill out to find a facility in your area, including:

  • Facility Type
  • County Filter
  • City Filter
  • Facility List

Once you select a facility, the facility detail page will look like this:

Like I mentioned, it’s a little clunky, however, the information provided is excellent.  For example, clicking on the first document provided for the facility detail in the screenshot above is for a complaint issued, with a resolution that no deficiencies were identified.

State Licensing for Assisted Living in Wyoming; Rules and Regulations

Once again, the State of Wyoming makes it very easy for the public to learn about the licensing process for Assisted Living, as well as how to easily view and research State Rules, Regulations and Health & Safety Codes.   Simply visit the State’s Licensing Section for assisted Living Facilities. Here, you’ll see how the State defines Assisted Living (it’s important to remember that how one state defines assisted living may be quite different than another state).

Additionally, you’ll be able to view Assisted Living Facility Rules:
