Researching Senior Living options in Arkansas leaves something to be desired, especially if you compare information that’s available (and provided through trusted state date sources) to other states, Arkansas has some work to do.
I’d love to see a more robust search tool and database provided by the state – one that offers complaints, inspections data and more usable facility data.
However, for now, there are some decent tools you can use to research safely.
In This Arkansas Assisted Living Research Guide, You’ll Learn
- How to find senior living facilities, skilled nursing and more Statewide using state data and resources
- How to identify Senior Living facilities that accept Medicare, and Medicaid
- How to search for assisted living by County in Arkansas, using a very user (and visually) friendly map.
- How to learn about and get a .pdf of the Rules and Regulations for Assisted Living Facilities (Type I and Type II) in Arkansas
Find Assisted Living and Other Senior Care Options in Arkansas Statewide using State Data
The Arkansas Department of Human Services is your go-to State Resource for finding :
- Nursing Homes
- Senior Living
- Skilled Nursing
- Medicaid Beds
- Medicare Beds
- Other Long-Term Care Options
You will need to visit their Long Term Care Facility Search page, which provides a statewide list of Senior Care Facilities. The facilities list (at this time) looks like this:
The list is not very interactive, and there isn’t any way to apply ‘filters’ to search for exact data or facility types that you need, however, you can scroll through and look for facilities in your county/city and then go from there.
Find Senior Living Facilities in Arkansas That Accept Medicare and Medicaid
Using the same tool and list from above, if you click into a specific facility, you’ll be able to see a section in the data that indicates:
- Medicare Beds
- Medicaid Beds
You’ll also be able to see the total number of licensed beds, Administrator License Number, Life Safety Code Years, Certifications, and Entity Type.
A great thing about this research tool, and database, is that it provides a direct phone number for the facility. You may have noticed that so many senior care sites do not offer a direct phone number for facilities they list in their directories. This is because they often replace the facility number with their own number to sell their services to you, or offer care help for a fee that they eventually try to collect from the facilities that they help to place residents in.
Using a County Map To Find Senior Living in Arkansas
Indeed, The State of Arkansas could improve some on the user-friendliness of their search database for facilities, and they could certainly offer more data on actual Assisted Living Facilities. There is, however, a more user-friendly County Map that they offer so you can more quickly ‘drill down’ to facilities by area in Arkansas.
You can access the map here.
How To View Assisted Living Regulations for Arkansas
There’s a section on the Department of Hunan Services site that offers links to the Rules and Regulations for Assisted Living Facilities in Arkansas, Types I and II. There is also a short ‘definition’ for Assisted Living which reads:
“Assisted Living Facilities provide services to residents 24 hours a day in performing all activities of daily living.”
To get a .pdf for Assisted Living Regulations in Arkansas, use the following links
The documents are long, but include some very valuable information including:
- Admission, Discharge and Transfer
- Alzheimer’s Care and Definition
- Physical Environment
- Imposition of Remedies
- Informal Dispute Resolution
Additionally, there is a more in-depth definition for each type of Care, including a definition for Assisted Living. It’s good to know how Arkansas defines Assisted Living, as the definition, and care provided can vary from state-to-state.
Assisted Living Definition for Arkansas:
Find Assisted Living – Other Resources
Finding specific facilities that are designated as ‘Assisted Living’ in Arkansas is not as easy as in other states. Seems like the focus is on Long-Term Care, Nursing Facilities and Skilled Nursing. However, the Arkansas Residential Assisted Living Association offers it’s on list of assisted living facilities and residential care homes, again by County on this page.
The map, and list looks like this:
Another good thing about this list is that it provides direct links to the facility websites – something that most commercial senior living sites don’t do.
Long Term Care Ombudsman Support
Lastly, I’d like to highlight the Arkansas Long-Term Care Ombudsman, which is a great resource if you are interested in:
- Resident Rights
- Having a neutral (unbiased) third party to investigate an issue or complaint at a Senior Care Facility
- Getting an overview of the different ways you can pay for Long Term Care, including Medicare, Medicaid, Long Term Care Insurance and Private Pay
All of the databases and resources listed above are non-commercial, and should be safe and highly trustworthy methods of researching Senior Living in Arkansas.
